In the spirit of a spooky Halloween, we played Eldritch Horror with some friends last night. In board games, my sweet spot has always been cooperative horror, and Eldritch Horror definitely falls into this category!

Board game box cover for Eldritch Horror showing a dramatic scene with people battling tentacled monsters emerging from the ground while standing on a moving train. Text on the box includes "Eldritch Horror", "A Game by Corey Konieczka and Nikki Valens", and "A Board Game of Global Mystery and Horror for 1 to 8 Players".

We played with the base game; our friend didn't have any expansions.

Name: Eldritch Horror (2013 version)

You can find out more about the game on the Eldritch Horror page on BoardGameGeek.

Our friend John had 3D-printed and hand-painted extra bits to enhance our gaming experience!

Our Ancient One: Cthulhu.

Fun game, though I had to leave before the game was over because I was just too tired. We started at around 6 pm, and I started fading near 11 pm so took an Uber home, asked the others to play my character: Diana Stanley.

I agree with the BGG community recommendation that the game is best with 4 players. With 6, even with the fun gameplay and good friends, I found it went a wee bit too long for me.

However, I heard from Jeff that our group did end up successfully holding back the Ancient One apocalypse a couple of hours after I left! I just wish I had been able to stick around to the end. 😜
